Bilbo is one clever hobbit. The fact that he is able to adapt to new situations is what keeps him alive. A perfect example of this is his use of the ring when fighting the spiders.
When the dwarves were captured by the elves, it forced Bilbo to step up and save them. During this event, Bilbo was being selfless. He put his friends first by trying to save them. After the fight with the spiders Bilbo Baggins has significantly matured since the beginning of the novel and has taken on the leadership position the party.
Bilbo and thirteen dwarves set out on a tough adventure to slap a dragon and take back their treasure. Bilbo helped save the dwarves countless of times and help his friends get back their home and receive some treasure. He lost….
